Case Studies

At Precision Speaking, our goal is to resolve your communication challenges and accelerate your results.  Below are three client case studies on communication-related challenges with the tools and solutions implemented to resolve the issues.

Case Study #1

Situation:

A representative from a major pharmaceutical organization was asked to present at a prestigious industry conference. Unfortunately, the topic requested was not one the representative believed could be of interest or hold the group’s attention for the full hour.

Solution:

The framing concept was applied to the topic to include examples, case studies and data that was relevant to the audience’s own business practices.  Her core message was edited to fewer than 11 words in order to be instantly remembered and repeated.

Result:

The client was mobbed at the end of the conference with requests for her card and more information. She has been one of the most highly requested industry panelists for 3+ consecutive years.

Case Study #2

Situation:

An employee at a re-insurance organization was taking advantage of a handicap parking sticker, which was causing dissention with other team members.  The original medical situation was temporary at six weeks, yet the employee had stretched the parking privilege into almost two years.  Human Resources had not been successful in talking to the employee about it.

Solution:

The entire HR team was coached in a four-step conversation model designed to redirect behavior and gain commitment. The team developed outlines for existing challenges and then role-played overcoming objections from the employees.

Result:

The VP of Human Resources reported that the parking situation was resolved in a 20-minute conversation the following day.  The team uses the model consistently to redirect undesirable behavior, engage employees in solutions and confirm their commitment to new behaviors and attitudes.

Case Study #3

Situation:

A governmental agency needed to persuade the state legislature to take action on protecting an endangered preserve. Unfortunately, the data supporting the recommendation was dense, highly technical and dull. And, the assigned time allotment was considered too brief to fully explain the situation.

Solution:

The data was organized into three categories: spoken, audio-visual and handouts.  Packets were prepared in advance for all legislative committee members to review, and then redistributed at the meeting. The presentation included a segment on risk assessments for both pro & con, followed by case studies where similar recommendations were previously successful.

Result:

The legislature approved the recommendation presented by the agency.  The surprise occurred when the state Governor, who attended the meeting, ran into the presenter a few days later and complimented his presentation as one of the best the Governor had seen.
